Phone number validation functionality & Flash banner

Selesti have looked after many digital projects for Barclaycard, and in July 2009 were commissioned to produce a new phone number validation tool for their website. As a significant new offering online, Barclaycard can now provide the peace of mind to their customers for them to be able to check the validity of any phone number that’s called them or that they are given to ring.

The main part of the scope was to develop the functionality that allowed site users to compare numbers with a database of approved Barclaycard contacts. Design of the area was leant from the existing pages on the site, including the icons used to promote the feature on static and animated banners.

Working with such large organisations often involves strict corporate guidelines and tight restrictions on how we can execute the brief. With this project the aim was to add as few changes to CSS as possible. We also needed to provide Barclaycard with a simple effective way of keeping the database up to date, when new phone numbers become available or others cease to exist. The solution we developed for this utilised an xml datafeed which referenced the telephone numbers stored on Barclaycard’s server.

The Flash Animated banner which Selesti were commissioned to design can be seen above, and very simply brings together the main two symbols of the campaign of upping security and confidence, along with straight forward copy explaining the new benefits to users.
