Soul II Soul Store
Selesti have been approached by local fashion company Findafasion ltd to design and build a microsite to promote their newly licensed Soul II Soul clothing range.
Soul II Soul is a British double award-winning Grammy act that emerged from London at the end of the 1980s. The group initially attracted attention as a sound system, playing records at house and street parties (where their clothing style - dubbed "Funki Dred" - quickly made a splash, inspiring them to start a line of clothing). Founded by Jazzie B and featuring a changing roster of other musicians - notably Nellee Hooper, Simon Law, Phillip 'Daddae' Harvey and Caron Wheeler - Soul II Soul's experiments in music-making of their own resulted in the dub plate "Fairplay," which secured them a deal with Virgin Records. They had huge hits in 1989 with the singles "Keep on Movin'" and "Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)," both from their debut album Club Classics Vol. I. These songs (both featuring Wheeler on vocals) set the tone for early 1990s mainstream dance music in the UK.
Jazzie B received an OBE from the Prince of Wales for services to music in 2008, "I’m going to get a really special place for this on my shelf," he said. He is considered to be one of the most influencial urban music figures in Britain and has produced artists such as the Fine Young Cannibals, Sinead O’Connor and Destiny’s Child. Today Jazzie B and Soul II Soul regularly tour around the world, performing and Djing.
The clothing range is being launched at Arthur's Day – the 250th anniversary celebration for Guinness. The event which starts Thursday 24th September 2009 takes place across four of Dublin’s top venues: Vicar Street, Whelans, The Academy and TRIPOD.
Live music is a big part of Dublin culture, the shows are being broadcast all over the world, including Jazzie B and the Soul II Soul members fashioning the new range. The line up looks superb, Soul II Soul, David Holmes, The Enemy, Estelle, Jamie Cullum, Tom Jones to name a few.
The site showcases a range of women and men's t-shirts, jackets, hoodies and sweats – all with 10% discount as part of the initial promotion.
Selesti have designed and developed the simple ecommerce clothing site in under 3 days given the urgency of the event, helping develop banners, a clever lightbox and analytics to measure the campaign success.
