Selesti Managing Director Ollie Blackmore is cycling 900 km in 4 days across the United Arab Emirates raising money for a local charity.
In February, he and friend Jason Roberts will cover 600 miles on their bikes, taking in all 7 emirates of the UAE.
Ollie is fundraising for The Big C cancer charity, based locally to Selesti, supporting people affected by cancer in Norfolk & Waveney. His cohort in the gruelling journey is doing so on behalf of SOS Children, the cause supported by his employers Bluehaus Group, between whose Abu Dhabi & Dubai offices the route stretches.
They’ve both been in training for months, to get their bodies ready to be pummelled by the heat, daily huge distances along difficult terrain. Trying to replicate the mountainous conditions they’ll also meet on their route has proved particularly difficult for Ollie, residing in the flattest part of the UK! Jason’s home in Dubai provides him a slight advantage in acclimatising, though nothing can truly prepare either of them for the variety of challenges that face them.
Day one sees them cycle over 130 miles from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain. They then continue on to Hatta on Day two, heading up the coast, through Fujairah to Dibba on Day three, eventually arriving in Dubai on Day 4, a final stretch of over 150 miles.
You can support Ollie at his JustGiving Page, he is aiming to earn thousands of pounds for what is truly a fantastic local cause. Everyone at Selesti wishes them both all the best.
