Good Samaritans at London Marathon 2014
36,000 people pulled on the lycra or donned comic costumes to take part in the London Marathon yesterday, and Selesti were right there on the front line as part of the cheer squad for the 92 Samaritans runners that took up this huge challenge.
This was all part of our work with sponsors The Health Insurance Group, as we documented the day for their digital media strategy. Selesti were located at the 25 mile mark shouting, tweeting and encouraging runners as they entered the final slog to the finish line. It was amazing to be part of such an epic and inspirational event, seeing people pushed to their limits all in the aid of charity.
At the end of the event runners were treated to a shower and a massage at The Playhouse Theatre. This beautiful theatre, usually the home to Spamalot, was decked out with Samaritans signage and streamed live BBC coverage from The London Marathon. In the beautiful theatre all Samaritans runners were awarded a certificate and heart felt hug from CEO Catherine Johnstone, who thanked them personally for their contribution.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and to the Samaritans Event and Fundraising Team for their hospitality throughout the day. We are now looking to get even more actively involved in 2015’s events (maybe we can even persuade a Selesti-an to take part!). Whether on the track or waving runners on, go #teamsamaritans!
