Smiles & Tears was launched in early 2016, and since then has helped over 1,000 young people globally. The app enables the users to -

  • Keep a diary to log how they are feeling
  • Fill a jar to collect memories of their lost loved one
  • Release a balloon ceremony as a symbol of letting go of negative feelings of grief
  • Get advice and support whatever the time or situation

We’re hoping that through this award we can gain further exposure for the app, enabling it to help even more children. We feel that the collaborative approach here was key to success, the whole app was built around what the youth group said that they needed.

"Selesti were absolutely brilliant in working so closely with our Youth Panel to ensure that the App’s functionality was exactly how the young people had proposed. By working so closely in partnership, bereaved children across the world are now able to freely download a tool that can help them at a really difficult time,"
Simon Wright, Chief Executive.

BBC Children in need funding was granted to Nelson’s Journey based on the fantastic work they do - which made this project possible.

If you want to know more about the app - you can download it from the Apple or Google app store.
