Christmas is always a great time for charity, and at Selesti we work to support non-profit organisations all year round. 2013 has been no different, and we’ve had a smashing time helping those who need our talents most. Whether national or local, we like to use our prowess in the field of web design , development and our wider digital skills to give a helping hand to the less fortunate among us, whatever their species! (we’ll explain that in a minute...)
The three charities we have chosen to highlight here, one for each day of our reflective 12 days of Christmas campaign so far, have each presented a unique opportunity for us to showcase our talents in digital, and also our determination to do the best for those that we work with. Whether in or out of the office, we go the extra mile for charities, literally in Ollie’s case (again, you’ll see why, read on).
You may have heard, and from the response we received via social media we know a LOT of you have, Selesti were recently chosen by The Big Issue Foundation to update their online presence and develop their digital marketing strategy. We were crossing our fingers to represent such an important national institution, and when word came through we’d been selected we were over the moon!
We may be in the early stages of the project, but if you know anything about web design and development you’ll understand that lots has already been done to help The Big Issue Foundation see how we are going to help improve their brand. Our experts in UX design and conversion optimisation have been slaving away to see how we can make the donation process simpler and quicker for those that find themselves on the incoming shiny new website, so this national charity can provide support to those on the streets that need it most.
Our search marketing team have also been chosen to improve the visibility of the site in Google and other search engines. The team will be leveraging the powerful tools of search engine optimisation and Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising to make sure the site gets seen by the right people, to generate more traffic and ultimately, more donations.
Our award winning integrated digital agency has spent a second (advent) calendar year looking after Support Adoption For Pets. The national animal charity from Pets At Home call upon our expertise in web design, development and search marketing to help unwanted and abandoned animals across the country find a new and happy home.
It’s been a long and happy client relationship with the people at Support Adoption For Pets, and recently we’ve even been able to expand their digital marketing using Google Ad Grants, the free PPC advertising from Google that is designed specifically for charities. Add to this the recognition we have gained at the Digital Entrepreneur Awards for the project, shortlisted in the category of Web Development Project Of The Year, and you have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to come! Just in time for their festive social media winter wonderland theme....
We don’t just keep our charity work in the office with us though, we take it home with us. Some of us even take it abroad, like Ollie our MD. Early in 2013 you may have heard talk of a cycle tour of the United Arab Emirates, where Ollie and a friend took on the monumental task of riding 9,000 kilometres (or 600 miles in old money) across the desert. For someone who is used to a landscape that resembles something you might eat on shrove tuesday, and our English weather, the title of ‘challenge’ probably didn’t do this fundraising effort justice. And it was all for local cancer charity the Big C, who support those suffering from the disease in the Norfolk and Waveney area.
If 9,000km for cancer isn’t enough to impress you, Ollie will be taking to the saddle again in the new year to tackle a 2,300km (1,436 mile) solo and unsupported ride around Canada’s Vancouver Island. Think it sounds like a nice holiday? Think again. More accurately, think; impassable roads, camping and the possibility of running into an angry bear. All in the name of charity!
This represents just a selection of the charitable efforts we have made here at Selesti over the past year. If you want to know about our efforts in other areas keep yourself glued to the Selesti blog in the run up to Christmas, our twelve days of Christmas celebration so far including:
